Burning Desert is a dry, arid location beyond Lyr's countryside, inhabited by Goons.
Background
By defeating the Shroom Lord, you gain access once again to the surface, which happens to be in the midst of a burning desert of hot sands and lava pools. You see the desert first whilst atop of Hollow Stairway on the rooftops. With many new obstacles, including hot ashes, boulders you can balance on and wind riddled tunnels - as much as you want to dart across those hot sands, it's best to take time to execute getting through this dangerous terrain.
